The God of All Comfort

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

The above quoted verse is all about God’s comfort.

To comfort means to console, to give relief, to help in times of needs.  We provide comfort to others especially to those who are troubled by giving them consoling words, hugging them or even praying for them. And yet, it’s not enough, because people have different needs, undergoing different pains in their lives, experiencing different levels of difficulties, and we,  as fallible beings cannot fully relate to the issues or concerns that others are facing in order to fully comfort them. In other words, we can only do so much.

But not with God. God who is the author of comfort and an all knowing God, can understand the deepest part of man’s trouble and pains. God knows the very core of our hearts, the very core of who we are, because He is our creator. Thus, He knows how to wrap Himself up around us in order to provide us the comfort that our hearts need. God can provide the comfort that no other can give, because He is the only one who knows the real us. He knows us even before we know ourselves.  He knows exactly how to comfort us.

While the faith of Christ followers go stronger in times of trials, rest assured, however, that in times of trials we have a comforting God, a compassionate God, whom we can turn to in order to lessen if not totally lift the burden of our loads and carry on our life’s journey. Yes, God provides comfort in times of affliction and adversity.

God comforts those who call Him, He promises comfort to those who are mourning. But God’s comfort can be known only if we open our hearts to His compassion. And, we can only open our hearts to Him when we have decided fully to accept Him and have knowledge about Him. Read the Bible, it will provide us comfort in times of sickness, suffering, trials and pains. Have faith and trust in God who comforts us.
