The thorn in my flesh..

“Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it  away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

2 Corinthians 12: 7b- 8f, 10

Peace and good to all.

If my share my thoughts on the above passage from the Bible.

St. Paul, with all the great revelations of Jesus to him, with all the spiritual experiences he had including his experiences of heaven thru visions,  with all the privileges of presenting to him many great mysteries which were made hidden to man for ages,  was given “a thorn in his flesh” to keep him from becoming proud and arrogant.  God knows every man’s heart,  he knows Paul’s  heart, his tendency of becoming proud especially with his knowledge and learnings and experience about our Lord, that could destroy the discipleship set by Jesus, that was why Paul was given an infirmity,  an affliction , that torments him every time,  purposely given to him to keep him grounded, to keep him from being arrogant.

As believers of Christ, with God’s promises as written in the Bible being presented to us, right in front of our eyes,  we too have the tendency to become proud and arrogant. Who would not be proud anyway if you know that the Lord is your shepherd, your protector, your healer, your provider? Hence, God gives all His followers their respective thorns in their flesh that would torment them, to keep them from being arrogant and proud.

When tormented by this thorn, whether it be an illness, a sin, sorrow or  personal problem, we experience our own weaknesses and vulnerability and we  call on God, we learn to trust in Him that with Him around us, whatever this thing that torments us ,we will overcome it in His name and that,  makes our weakness the link to keep our faith in God.

We all have been given thorns that weaken us to make us stronger in faith in Christ. I have my own thorn in the flesh, and believe me.  it torments me everyday, but it is also the one who keeps me stronger in my faith in God, it is the one that inspires me to know Christ more each day and the one that drives me to know His great message to me every day.
