“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.”John 6: 51, 53
Peace and good to all.
If I may share my insights on the above gospel of our Lord.
Have we ever thought of the reason why Jesus used the metaphor of bread to represent Him in our lives?
This is to impart to all of us that like the bread, Jesus is essential for the daily sustenance of our life, particularly of our soul. That, He is our spiritual nourishment, the One that sustains life in us, that without Him, we have no life.
But how can we partake on the flesh and blood of Christ? It is be receiving HIM, by accepting Jesus as our saviour. By receiving Jesus, who is the bread of life, we continue to grow in Him by feeding on His word. How?
Spiritually, “feeding“ or “eating” happens when one hears or reads the word of God, the Holy Bible. We know that in order to sustain life, we need to “eat” everyday because if we don’t, we get weak, and then we die eventually.
So, feeding on the word of God, means hearing or reading His word everyday. And by doing so, the process of ingestion of God’s messages takes place that nourishes our spiritual lives as it creates a pattern in us of doing it everyday, in order to strengthen us, to strengthen our faith in Him, just like eating our food physically, in order to keep our physical bodies stronger and away from any sickness.
Some of us now or in the past, have been spiritually dead, physically living and strong, but deep inside have a wretched, miserable, naked heart that is suffering from a spiritual disease. This happens because of lack or none at all of spiritual nourishments from Jesus. Because they do not have Jesus in their lives, they have neglected Jesus, they have neglected to feed their souls. Remember that as food nourishes our physical bodies, Jesus our Lord, nourishes and sustains our spiritual life. Let us seek everyday nourishment from the word of God and it is possible Ithrough enduring relationship with Jesus.
