“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”Romans 10: 10-13
Peace and good to all.
If I may share my personal reflection on the above passage from the Book of Romans.
To believe in your heart means to accept something regardless of what your five senses will feed your mind. It means acceptance without any shadow of doubt sans physical proof. It is actually faith in simple term. Thus, the gospel is saying that faith in Jesus can be found in our hearts and not in our mouths. It is however, our mouths that confess what our hearts believe. That, whatever the heart really believes, the mouth confesses.
Confession is to make faith known. While faith takes place inside, confession takes place outside. No one can see our faith for it is in our hearts, but the moment we share the word of God or share testimony on how Jesus has changed our life or what He has done for us and what He can do to others for them to be saved and have eternal life, then that is confession.
Notice, however, that you can not make a confession or make testimony about Jesus unless you have believed Jesus in your heart. And, with all the mysteries that have happened in your life after accepting Jesus, should you not say so and made public about it, for others to know?
When Christ has given you peace and has calmed your heart; when Christ has given you content when others worry too much; when the Word of God has become the daily provision of your soul, would you not say and share all these to others? Believing in your heart also means not being ashamed to confess or testify about God’s mercy and blessings. And, why would you be ashamed in the first place, when it is about the Son of God whom you confess about, and when the “Scriptures says that anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”
We are believers of Christ, we are His followers, there is no shame to tell and share that to everyone, we should not hide our love for Him. We should stand firm and take what may come our way, there are no secret believers in Christ our Lord. God be with you.
