Let the Word of God dwell in our Hearts..

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:16-17

Peace and good to all.

If I may share my personal reflection on the above passage from the Book of Colossians.

How can the word of Christ dwell in us?

How do we read our Bible? Do we read it like we are reading a novel or a newspaper or do we read it with speed and read it  if only to appease ourselves that we have complied with our devotional duty. It is a pity to consider reading the Bible, the Word of God, as a devotional duty rather than a moment to be spent with the Living God.

If this is how you read the word of God then its either you have not heard yet or have heard a little the voice of God in your life. Slow down my friend. Slow down and try to engage with the Word of God, meditate with the verse that you read, engage a conversation with the Living God and allow your heart to connect with Him.  And then, it is only then, that you will hear  the voice of God from the verses that you read.

When you read the text in the Bible more with your heart rather than using the faculty of your own reasoning, you are letting God address your heart and mind. It is in this sense that the word of God starts to dwell in you heart.

Sometimes, I have my own struggle when I prepare myself reading the Bible in the morning. There are lots of disturbances that would want to prevent me for reading it. There are many distractions or outside forces.  But I call on the Living God and like the tempest in the Sea of Galilee, Jesus would quiet them all and everything would be still.

At times, I write my own reflection on what I read. I write because I want to share. Because God’s word is meant to be shared and a written reflection is one of the conduits to deliver God’s message.  I share because I am a witness of God’s glory and it’s an honor to share God’s message as revealed in the Bible. I share because I cannot contain to myself the good news of our Lord Jesus.

May God be with us all.
