“Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”
The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.’
Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.”And his servant was healed at that moment.”Matthew 8: 6-8, 13
Peace and good to all.
If my share my thoughts on the above gospel.
The gospel is about faith of the centurion (a Roman commander), a person not associated with Jesus who is a Jew, and yet, because of his strong faith in Jesus , his request was granted which resulted in his servant being healed the same day.
What is the gospel telling us? That, Jesus does not look on the stature of a person. He does not look on the religious affiliations; beliefs and race are irrelevant for him. He just expects a person who comes to Him to be healed to have strong faith in Him; to completely surrender his trust in Him.
That, it does not matter from where you are, whether you are physically or spiritually afflicted like the leper He healed; whether you are in need of healing for yourself or for someone you care about, like the centurion here, as long as you put your trust in Him and completely surrender to the power of God, then things will be done as you believed it will be, through the power of Jesus whom you invoke.
Faith in Jesus is the most crucial part of us when we come to Him for help. Beliefs and religious doctrines are irrelevant to God. What is important is that when you come to Him for help, for healing, you completely surrender all your trust on His mighty power that He only, can heal. The healing we may be asking from Him, may not come on the manner and time we had hoped for but rest assured that Jesus is gracing us with His healing power, in the way that is best for us. Without faith my friends God will be hampered in reaching out His healing love to you. This may remind us of the people of Nazareth (the place where Jesus grew up) Jesus was not able to perform miracles there because of their lack of faith in Him.
Jesus, the Great Healer, does not only heal superficially. He heals the inner most part of our hearts that no physician or healer on earth could do. So many of us are deeply wounded, living but deeply wounded, not physically, but deeply in our hearts. Deeper wounds my friends can only be healed through the help and grace of Jesus – the Divine Physician.
