‘Blessed is the man who fears the Lord.”

“Praise the Lord.

Blessed are those who fear the Lord, who find great delight in his commands.   Wealth and riches  are in their houses,  and their righteousness endures forever.  They will have no fear of bad news;  their hearts are steadfast,  trusting in the Lord.   Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;”

Psalm 112: 1, 3, 7-8

Peace and good to all.

If I may share my insights on the above verse from the Book of Psalms.

The verse is all about how a man is blessed when he fears the Lord. But what do we mean of fear of the Lord?

Generally, fear means to have respect, to revere, to be amazed or in awe. Thus, when we say fear of the Lord, it means, in respect or in reverence to our Lord God. It entails obedience to His commandments. We follow His commandments and teachings because we respect Him, we revere Him and puts Him first ahead of everything.

The Bible has described  what is meant by fear of the Lord or what happens when a man fears the Lord.  Thus, it says that “Fear of the Lord, is the beginning of wisdom” or of knowledge and of instructions. That fear of the Lord prolongs life or leads to life. And, so many more descriptions as you proceed reading the Bible and find verse(s) about “fear of the Lord.”

In the above quoted verse from the Book of Psalm, it describes the blessings a man gets when he fears the Lord. That he will be blessed for God will provide provisions for him, in accordance with his needs.  A man who fears the Lord,   is also not afraid of any bad news or any troubles. He is secured because He knows and he trusts that God is with him and that he will be protected and he will not be abandoned but rather guided and saved by God. He is in perfect peace that God will always be there for him. He trusts that God is in control.

Again, this is all about faith and trust in God that if He is with us, who can be against us. That though we walk  through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil for God is with us. This is so overwhelming, right?

During this uncertain times especially because of the pandemic, we need to believe and trust that Jesus is in control.  Have a steady heart, let our minds stay on Him, let’s put our trust on Jesus.
